UPSAC - PFIC Catalina Classic 2008

This is UPSAC's 7th Annual Pier Fishing Get Together at Catalina. It was a bright and fast start this year with fish hook ups right after getting off the Express ferry. Again, we stayed at out usual - the Hermosa Inn - renting a Cottage with kitchen for the weekend to help cook for the potluck the day of the derby.

Dinner on Friday night was at a new place this year. Some years, the crew did the Buffalo Nickel down the road toward the Power Plant/Helicopter Landing. But this year, we ate upstairs at Mi Casitas, which is downtown, in the heart of Avalon, just a few blocks from everything. Food and services were great. Definitely going back next year.

Amanda had temper tantrum after losing a good opaleye just as the fish was coming over the railing, so she threw her custom rod (that Dad wrapped) into the ocean. Then with a look of horror, it sank. But with the help of Hashem, his gaff hook on a rope and Hashem's underwater camera (which didn't actually spot the rod but gave us a glimpse below of the structure), Dad fished it out 24 hours later when we'd all assumed the rod was long gone.

We brought a new one with us this year. Welcome Elaine Liu to her first PFGT-UPSAC Catalina Classic!
